We're in the home stretch on this Caldwell job. The block retaining wall is largely set, running the full length of the backyard - and the difference it makes to the space is already clear, even before everything is finished and cleaned up.
Here's the thing about retaining walls that a lot of people don't fully appreciate until they have one: it's not just about looks. A wall like this holds soil in place, defines usable space, and creates separation between grade levels that would otherwise erode or shift over time. Done right, it becomes a permanent part of your landscape - not something you're fixing or replacing in a few years.
We used segmental concrete block for this one. It's a solid choice for a run this long. The texture gives it a natural, finished appearance, and the block itself is built to handle soil pressure and weather without budging. You can see how cleanly the courses stack - that consistency matters both for structural integrity and for the finished look.
The concrete pad running alongside the wall is a nice touch too. It gives the yard a clean edge and makes the whole setup feel intentional. That's what separates a well-planned outdoor space from one that just sort of happened. Every element works together.
Fall is actually a great time to get this kind of work done before the ground changes. If you've been sitting on a retaining wall project, now is a solid window to move on it.
